Default 1996 LT4 Chasing a P0300 code...

My service engine soon light is on, and I get a P0300 code from my scanner. Starting with what I see visually, my #8 spark plug wire on the passenger side has a big of a bulge on it, and it looks to be taped up. Did someone really try to repair a park plug wire here? LoL...Anyway. some of the other wires have some sort of sleeving on them, but this is the only one that has the bulge and tape around it. Is anyone else with a '96 LT4 able to look and see if they have anything like this going on? Doesn't seem normal to me, but the car is new to me, and these look to be the original plug wires...

Note: The bulging wire is the one right under the yellow dipstick.

Thanks...

This is my stock LT4. As you can see numbers 6 and 8 are wrapped together, but yours looks to be much bigger.

Thanks for your reply and pic. Yours doesn't have black tape around it, huh? Guess I will cut it open and see if there's anything going on in there...

peel it off, cutting if off is risky. most likely cutting the wire as well. Replacing wires on this car is a not fun.Anything like that will def. cause a random missfire. it all needs to be 100 percent. might as well find a new opti spark while your at it, last time i got one it was not easy to find, hopefully thats gotten better. Probably easier to just un-tape the wire than post pictures...LOL

Good advice...the tape was all dried out, so I kind of had to carefully do a combination of peeling and a razor,

Underneath? #6 and #8...both burned. Hosing wrapped around #8. Don't know if whoever did the "repair" saw #6 was burned as well. Seem like this is likely my issue? I plan to at least do the plugs and wires...eventually the opti, since I have no idea what it's age is. Yes, has proven hard to find a trustworthy replacement. Any advice?

Also= #8 seems like it'll be tough...any advice on how to even get the boot off? Any certain type of boot pliers to look for? Starting off with extra long needle-nose...guess we'll see...

Thanks!

Why would he need to find a new Optispark. The LT4 already has the updated, last design vented unit that lasts. A cap, rotor and a cleaning would be good to do.
