That is great news!!! Can't wait to get one. Unfortionately right now I have a little too much on my plate to take the time for the install (how long will it take). Will there be any group purchases in the future or is the price set. If this is a discounted price I may consider getting one now and installing later.

hmmm, that looks like it would be a great skid plate for my low-rider!! Maybe I wont feel the floor move anymore!!

Probably will not clear the long tubes with hooker y-pipe.

Gus,

You could get some aluminum plating and fasten it to the bottom. just kidding

I will be installing a set of Hookers on the race car next month and will look into what modifications will need to be made if any. It's going to be close, if might just be a matter of making a dimple in the frame where it passes under the exhaust.

I have Dave's camber brace on both of my cars and also went through considerable effort to adapt an "X" brace from a convertible to my street car several months ago. I can tell you from my experience with the X brace that I adapted that they work. (just like the camber brace) Have you ever closed your hood a little too hard with the top off and watched the car sag where the front of the car meets the doors? That type of flex (and twisting of the body) are GREATLY reduced with the "X" brace, and I'm sure with the "cross frame" as well. Sounds good Dave, great job.

Will you offer a different kit with additional thread inserts for 84's & 85's that don't have the front provision for the factory x-brace?

Dave,

How thick is the frame where the inserts are installed?

It's just under an 1/8 of an inch. The nutserts are rated at 1110lbs of pull out force. I haven't had any problems in this area during our testing.

Ok, I see now. I had to look up how nutserts work before I understood. They deform around the 5/8" hole, forming a flange on either side of it. As long as we don't drill a real sloppy hole, they will work very well.

Don't mind me - I have this desease that requires me to understand how everything works. :)

For anyone that wants to order one, just give me a call. I've sent everything to the Mall, but they haven't set it up yet. I'll have to track the orders and make it right with Troy until they have a chance to update the Mall.

Thanks,
Dave :seeya

Yes, they are the same cars. I'm glad they got good shots of the camber-braces as well. My first mag article, and the people at VETTE are great to work with. There is one more thing I will say about the X-brace (or cross-frame) and that is the next time you are driving with the top off (which may be a while for those of you in the colder climates) rest your elbow on the door sill and hold onto the upper corner of you windshield frame when going over a rough road. You can feel the flex between the windshield frame and the car body. After installing a brace under the car, it will stiffen to the point that this flex is virtually eliminated.

It looks like you could modify the brace and add a second, slightly heavier model that would satisfy NHRA regs for propeller shaft retention(drive shaft loop)? I'm not an NHRA guru, but it's a thought.
