Hi,
I did several data logging sessions and notice the oil temperature reads pretty high, for city driving, at low speeds up to 50mph, stoplights it went up to 290F while coolant was 202maximum. The dash indicator stays below half way you would think it’s low. The oil is racing 0w40synthetic and can handle 150C so it must’ve kept doing it’s job. What is your experience (oil temps, oil type, driving conditions)?
I suspect my car has some problem, but the blow by doesn’t seem high I have a catch can on the breather tube passenger side and it stays completely dry. Previously the catalytic converter was blocked but now I have 2 100cpi metallic cats that flow fast (exhaust is way louder).
I’ve seen articles saying 1.2-1.4 coolant/oil temp ratio is ok but what do you do if you want to run on mineral oil for example? set the thermostat/fans at 160F? I have the first fan at 183, fan 2 at 203F, but stock settings are higher which doesn’t make sense trying to run these on conventional oil.
my car is 1991 manual 6
Thank you
Previously when the converter was clogged I had measured the oil temp with a thermal camera and it was around 130C but today I pointed a temperature gun to the oil pan and it was about 90C after city spirited driving so the problem must be the oil sensor. I think it may me possible to recalibrate it but I have a spare one that looks like this https://corvetteparts.com/item/sende...-lt4-1992-1996 this seems to be the dahs gauge. not sure.
yes, one hot lap and 2 cooling laps, air dam modified and water would go up to 230-240F outside temp 95F. I thought it was the radiator intake not big enough and outside temp too high. The cat was previously cleaned, and destroyed preconverters removed, before that but it turned out, the cement that they used to seal the fittings before the preconverters leaked before it hardened and went into the cat. The car felt a bit faster after thinking U had cleaned the cat, but you know, confirmation bias .
