Default C4 keyless entry

Has anybody installed an aftermarket keyless entry on they're ride. I've got an 85 that I would like to have keyless entry. I'm concerned about possible conflicts with the factory security system which is working just fine at this point. I've seen some plug in systems designed specifically for the vette but they want an arm and a leg for it. I recently installed a remote start/ keyless entry system on my girlfriends 92 4-runner and am so impressed with how good it works, I thought it would be way cool to have one on the vette. I'm not so sure about the remote start because of all the major wiring connections required. I was able to get a T harness for the Toyota to take care of the start circuits but they don't appear to offer one for the vette. The system I used was by Bulldog who makes a keyless entry system for about 50 bucks.

Welcome to the forum. This is what I added to my '96; it should work fine on your car

Like most alarms it requires splicing; it's not a plug-in harness. Can't help with the remote start because I have no experience there. HTH.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like you did a heck a nice job there. What about the hatch, does the vke-1000 operate that too? Did you have any problems with inconsistant horn chirp duration?

I had one of our local car alarm places add a keyless entry along with a remote hatch release for about $125. I just love the convinence and can't believe I waited so long. It was done on my 92.

$125 is a good price, barely more than I paid for my keyless entry alone. I guess I learned a lot about my car though :D

Yes, the VKE1000 can pop the hatch. In alarm-lingo, there are three channels available on the system. Ch.1 is the door lock/unlock. Ch.2 is the "GM" button and is often set up to pop the hatch. Ch.3 is accessed by pushing "lock" and "unlock" at the same time. I left that wire dangling because I couldn't think of anything to control with it :D

Also I permanently disabled the horn chirp so I'm not sure if I have that problem. The red panic button works fine though. Any other questions, just let me know.
