No Reverse!
I pull into a parking spot tonight for diner and when I come out and try and put my 6 speed into reverse all I get it it going into 6th gear. The little black round **** that I have to lift up on now has no tension on it at all and if I lift it up it just stays up. While it is in the up position I can see a little access hole with a rod inside the main shifter shaft which appears to not move at all when I pull up on the round black plastic **** wrapped around the main shifter rod. Can somebody tell me what could have broke causing this mess.

it sounds like the interlock has broke.
you may want to get in there and disconnect the entire thing.
the hurst and ripper shifters both disable the interlock. I suppose it can be done without replacing the shifter.
