Anybody tried this route? My original 1985 core finally went out after some non-use. I know the entire car was built around it but currently I have no AC or heater lines in the way so…
I replaced my ac evaporator and heater at the same time. I don’t think you can get the heater core straps loose from outside. The bolts are on the inside.
I know everyone says what a miserable job the heater core is. I am in the minority here but it is not bad. It will take some time but not bad at all. I feel removing the top part dash makes it much easier.
I'm going to have to do this job also as mine was already bypassed. Unfortunately from the look of it my job will be a bit harder due to aftermarket stereo wiring... I'll have to look up fastguy method!

I agree, not that difficult, just time consuming. You just have to learn to see with your fingers to find that one screw on the top...
Has anyone done both an 84-89 and a 90-96 heater core? I know that for either group I'd remove the Instrument Panel (IP) pad. I know that the 84-89 IP pad is less fussy and quicker to remove than the 90-96 by quite a bit. I haven't done either heater core. For those that have, which group is 'easier'?
