Default Hood help

Hi everyone, I recently aquired an 85 and it hasnt started in years. First thing I wanted to do was change the battery, the lever doesnt work. And I have the tool, but it seems the hood is adjusted so low I cant get it over the ridge. Any advice on how to overcome this? Or any mechanics/enthusiasts in port saint lucie, Florida?? I've tried for a cumulative 6 hours and have given up

Have you watched youtube videos for hints? E.g 'Team Mudshark'. Or you could try via the wheel liners.

yeah, I've watched all most all of them from the made tool to the purchased tools. The hood seems to be too close to the chassis and I cannot force it over the lip/edge. I saw the fender liner video but they also said you need to be a bit small and I'm a pretty stocky guy.

Are both cables broken, any chance of using e.g. pliers under the dash and get at least one side released. I think there's always some space for a tool under the hood but might require a smaller or flatter tool.
If you remove the wheels there's pretty good space in the wheel wells.

Thanks frosted, I feel this may reluctantly be the answer , I tried the pliers under the dash pulling both cables just moves the cables with not change under the hood. Maybe I should have spent the money on quck jacks

Just changed the hood release cables on my ‘88 and shut the hood before it was adjusted properly. Luckily it was just the p/s though. I removed the wheel and liner and with the emergency release tool I was able to fish around and play with the release.
It is def tight and may take a while though.
