Default 93 speedometer issues

The speedometer reads 0, the cruise control nor the odometer work. I looked at the connector and wiring on the trans (manual) and it looks fine. I've only had it a couple months. It sat for over 20 years and I'm just now getting it running. 8900 miles. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Kevin

Gave it a try. Thanks. Still nothing. Displays 00. What is that telling me?

I'd check the speed sensor itself - are the gears ok and if rotating by hand is there a signal.

With the later style VSS I believe it might be easier to confirm VSS function by just purchasing a correct pigtail for the VSS and check with a meter.

GM# 12085498 ACD# PT-120 or an equivalent from a 'local' AP Store would be correct. It's the same as many/most later fog lights. PICO is a popular after-market and it would be either 5638PT/5638C. That information will change to many other vendors and likely less than 14$ maybe closer to 11$ dependent on source. Less than 10$ from some.

Thanks for all the info! Code 24 is present. Also 27. No FX3. Its a convertible so really tight in there! I'm not sure if this matters but I ran through the gears and at about 70mph or so (guessing-speedo not working) I saw 4 mph show up on the speedo, slowed down a bit, back to 0.

That's a pretty typical symptom of damaged sensor gears.

Yeah, according to the odometer. So any pointers on changing the sensor? Like I said its a convertible so its pretty tight in there.

I just changed my speedo gears. VSS is held in with one 10mm bolt. It is on the drivers side in the tailshaft housing. Might want to source a new O ring before you pop it out. Be careful, the speedo gear can pop out and go flying when the VSS comes out. It is more work getting the car in the air than messing with the sensor. My car is a 93 as well so if you end up needing speedo gears I have some laying around.

Just looking at it, I don't see how I'm going to get my hand up in there. The exhaust and the X-brace are right in the way. Do they need to come down?

Very likely, at least the X-brace certainly.

Here's my 91, I'd probably get the sensor without dropping the exhaust. Only lots of rude words and blood.
