My "84 is leaking oil from inside the dizzy? One for the books? Anyway, it's seeping up from around the base near the shaft. I took it apart and didn't find much in the way of seals (no rubber O-rings) other than a hard gasket just under the base. Here' a couple of pics - anyone run into this before? Repairable or just invest in a new dizzy? ...or do you think it may be caused by something else? PCV seems fine and oil pressure and fill look good. BTW - also has major impact on performance as pick-up coil gets fouled. Thanks Initial inspection After cleaning - leaking out of hole

Yep, this is a bit unusual. Since the pressure in the engine is forcing the oil "up" you have something loose, worn not seating properly. You mentioned the "hard gasket".... Is that leaking? That is an obvious place to start.
The quick and easy method is to get a new distributor and a new gasket. That solves all problems. If you interested in a mystery, start taking your distributor apart.
It is repairable I saw this happen it was around 85, Now the question is it Worth it. Depends on if you can get the seals, the Bushings and if you're in that far the ICM the pick up, when you add it all up you're at the cost of a Off Shelf replacement Rebuilt
Sure you don't have excessive blow by? That would cause the steam to go through distributor shaft and cool in the top of it, where it becomes oil again..... You have oil pressure just above the drive gear in the lifter Valley chanel, so if the oil was forcing up there, the distributor bushing must be extremely worn out. But even then, that bushing is below that.
I'd pull distributor out and post pics. Never seen a cracked shaft, but I guess thats possible as well.

I did pull it. Took it apart cleaned it up... Found one bushing perhaps a bushing/sealer just under the base on the shaft. It's made from a hard material not flexible at all. Difficult to imagine it has any type of sealing properties. Put it back together then dripped some three-in-one oil down the the shaft for kicks, held it upside down, and inspected the inside = I could see a slight seepage. I would try fixing but I'm not confident a new bushing is the fix. Unless somebody else has been down this path, fixed it and can recommend what to do, I think I'm just going to replace it. Thanks for response...
Now dry as a bone! Well, for kicks I drained a quart of oil out. Stick (some hacks put in for me) showed just a hair above full. But was too much... Ha. Pic after drive ng about 6 miles. Yahoo!
