OK, my Dad found a '95 LT1 with just over 100k miles for $7,000, we haven't seen it yet, but it's the same dealer who sold us his 98 POS mustang and my previously owned 97 trans am...
supposedly it just needs some paint work and some interior restoration... does that sound like a good deal to you???
sounds decent enough to me, he said mechanically there are no problems whatsoever...
Anyway question is... how much for not a great great amazingly perfect paint job, but an adequate one that looks good, and how much to replace carpet and seat cushions???
I know you can find a lot of that stuff in MAD, but usually they're kinda steep.
My only concern is that, typically, people who neglect cosmetic part of a car also neglect maintenance, like oil change not to mention other vital fluids. I suggest, for a good deal, look for high millage but cosmetically terrific car. Chances are the owner took great care of the car but due to high millage has to offer low price.
My $.02 worth.
$7K is pretty cheap for a 95! Good clean drivers will run around $12-15K. I would look the car over carefully, drive it both in town and on the freeway, and take it to a trusted mechanic for inspection (if they will let you).
Parts for C4's can be expensive, so make sure it runs good and there are no strange noises, leaking fluids or items that don't work (AC, cruise, radio, etc).
As far as paint, visit various body and paint shops and look at the quality of work they do. Ask what their rate is for same-color repaint for Vettes and see if they have finished jobs you can look at. Hopefully the one you are looking at does not have and body damage. Fiberglass repair can get expensive even before a can of paint gets opened!!
Most of the Corvette catalogs (MAD, Ecklers and others) are fairly high priced for stuff. Lots of good vendors here and with a bit of time and the Google search engine, you should be able to come up with some internet sources.
