The only real challenge is that it can be a wrestling match to remove the wedge that secures the **** in some cases. Vise Grip, and upward persuasion should get it done.

yes, if it gives you trouble, take roof off, straddle the center console, vice grips on the “wedge”, screwdriver through the vice grips and pull up on the screwdriver!
be careful and be sure you know where you and the tools are going if something lets loose!
I also assume similar setup and tapping upwards on the screwdriver with a rubber mallet may work too.

When reassembling, you'll do yourself a major favor if you go easy pushing the wedge back into place, and also go easy with the set screw that secures the lift ring. Be gentle with both, and you'll avoid unnecessary future trouble.

I was just! thing about this!! Do i just tap it back in gently with a small hammer?
oh interesting. I figured since the wedge was so hard to get out it would require similar force to go back in
NO!!!!! If you've NOT removed it yet and you know someone with a small 'slide hammer style' dent puller/seal remover device it's ideal for the removal. I don't know that maybe some of the retail auto parts stores might loan/rent one or not.
wow! that little wedge was a PITA. Used two screwdrivers to leverage it out and some gentle tapping to put it back. it’s also so much longer than i expected.
New part from dino’s corvette salvage works great. only complaint is that it lacks the shift boot retaining ring. So as you can see, I’ve been relegated to a zip tie.
