Hi everybody! I found a nice stereo for my C4 cab '89, but if I understand right so the original stereo has a high (here in Europe) called 1 1/2 DIN, about 7,5 cm approx 3 inches. I saw someone here built in an doubble-DIN receiver. Must I modify the frame for ac/vent/radio/message for the higher (2xDIN) receiver? Right now the aftermarket stereo looks horrible. I must have a more sober one. Well, I found some already but need to know the measurements. WBR Laszlo
The short answer to your question is; Yes, you must modify. The 1989 console space for the factory Delco/Bose head unit is not a full double-DIN. You need to modify the face plate and mounting bracket assemblies in the dash to be able to accommodate a full double-DIN unit. It also helps to shave down / grind / sand the top of the climate control head to minimize its height so the double-DIN will fit above. It's possible; I have done it, but it requires some hand fabrication work.
When you cut the plastic middle bar from the front fascia, use some of those cut plastic pieces with the radius edges to fill the hole you created in the sides of the fascia. You'll see what I mean if you try it.
Hi AJP01! Thank you for your advice! It's very nice built! My car is very loud and I listening (if I can ) only to the radio and music from my USB-stick. At some point I have to use GPS maps as well (Waze). I found this on amazon: https://www.amazon.se/gp/product/B07...WPRQLJ49&psc=1
As you can see, it's very discrete and hopefuly easy to built in.
