Default LT1 head gasket set for decked block

355 LT1 build underway, machine shop recommended decking the block as there was an imprint in it. I gave them the OK. The heads are 2nd hand and I had them cut 1x in the past. They’re going to the machine shop when I pick up the block and crank and I’m sure they’ll want to cut them to clean them up.

I’ve always run the thin set of Mr Gasket head gaskets. With a decked block and heads, can I get into trouble with too much compression if I do so? Perhaps need more info for a better answer, like CC of the chambers and how much came off the block. Don’t have that info yet.

Wait until you know the piston to deck height so you can confirm quench. At that stage you can quickly cc everything to find your true compression ratio. If too high for your taste, you might consider having your guy open up the combustion chambers. This will kill 2 birds with one stone.

Doubtful you can get the compression ratio too high with those 4 eyebrow pistons and 3.48 stroke... offhand I'm calculating 11.5 SCR with zero deck and 10.75 SCR with the piston in the hole .025 using the. 024 thick, 4.100 bore gasket.... ideally you would want to keep the piston to head around .040 and you are best with waiting until you can measure where the deck clearance comes in and then figuring out what headgasket gets you where you want to be.
