Default No Response On Gas Pedal Suspected Transmission Issue

Hello all,
I’ve got a 1986 C4 and was on a night drive the other day. Know a nice straight piece of road I often go to and get the car up to speed every now and then. The last time I did it however I ran into a major issue, when the car tried to switch from 3rd into 4th gear I lost all gas pedal response, as the title stated I suspect it is a transmission issue. I think it’s important to highlight that I had the gas pedal all the way down which might not have given the transmission time to reconnect properly. I’m not sure, when I reduced speed and brought it down to the first gear range it would just stay there. Any suggestions as to what it might be are appreciated also if I did not give enough info about the event please say so since it’s my first time posting. Thanks in advance.
Edit 1: It’s a 4 speed automatic transmission.

Have you even popped the hood? Maybe check the throttle cable. Trans fluid level?

Are you saying that it will now only provide 1st gear at all times that the shifter ins in D or O/D?

The trans fluid should not be a problem I believe I checked it a month ago and it was at the appropriate level with good coloring. The throttle cable also looks fine to me I can see it pulling back when I press the gas pedal.

Correct. The car also has the option to “manually” shift between first and second gears but that also does not seem to work

Ok the problem seems to have sorted itself out. Was doing some other work on it where I had to disconnect the battery. Out of curiosity I fired it up and tried to put it in reverse to see if it would work and to my surprise it did. Took it out for a bit and it changed gears fine. I suspect that the ECU needed a hard reset or something since that’s the only thing that I can think of that would make a difference.

Sounds like it's time to pull the trans. That's what I'd do, but a trans expert would be able to give better advice that I can. I think @arbee know the 700R4 well...

An 86 tranny has not computer control except for the lock up converter.
