Default Suggested header bolts LT1

I'll be installing my SW headers soon. Anyone have a suggestion (part #) for header bolts? Hex head or 12 point? Brand?

I picked up some bolts at Autozone. They use a Allen wrench and have safety wires to keep them from backing out once you have them installed. The set comes with a socket Allen wrench to install them.

I use the ARP SS hex bolts on my headers, the part number is 400-1109 with a 1" length. I like them because the heads are 5/16" instead of 3/8" so you can get in and tighten them easier and with a hex head you can use a socket, open or closed end wrench.

i don't have sw's but with my shorties i was able to use an allen head bolt that i got a 1/4 longer and put a lock washer on and they never backed out.. this idea didn't work with my EM lt's cause the primaries were too big.

I used stainless steel studs instead of bolts when I did my SW's

ARP-400-1412 from Summit
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARP-400-1412/

They worked ok but there are a couple that are still a PITA to tighten. Still tight though with no leaks.

Just curious, why did you change to studs?

Just seem tomake more sense to me. A nut seems easier to start than a bolt in those tight spaces.

JFYI I had to wobble out the end guide pin holes on my SW headers. After they went on the guide pins some of the bolt holes didn't line up very well. I don't know if it was because of the studs or not. I have never read of anyone else having this isssue.

I bought S/S allen socket head bolts that were 1" in length. These made it easier to use a torque wrench with and look cool. The only place I didn't use these at was where the A/C alt brace bolted to the header with a standoff type bolt.

I know this thread is 14 years old. But I don't see how ARP 400-1209 bolts can be used in an LT1 C4. Pictured here is an OEM LT1 header bolt (I just removed from my '95 C4) next to ARP bolts 400-1209 bolts. The ARP bolts aren't even half the length of the OEM bolt. What am I missing?

This is an old thread, but the stock exhaust headers had a much deeper flange than aftermarket ones like ARH, etc. The bolts that come with my new headers were 1” long and the flange measured 0.39” thick. Hope that helps.
