There are all kinds of claims and products that are supposed to suppress road noise and the “cabin drone “. I would like to hear from members that have used these products and their opinions and recommendations. What works and what doesn’t.

So let me preface this by saying I didn't do this in my 84, it was in my 99 1 ton Powerstroke which also had no sound deadening of any kind.

I used Noico brand butyl, and where it was possible on the firewall and under the cab during the clutch job I also put on 10mm thick foam sound and heat insulation.

Link Link

Like everything in the past 3 years the price has doubled since I did this. I started with the 4 doors on my crew cab, which tamed down the road noise considerably. Next I did the firewall which tamed the diesel engine noise. Then I did the roof and the wind noise died down. One day, possibly this winter I'll pull the interior of the Vette and do it.

One thing to consider tho it butyl rubber is heavy. About 1# per sqft ft tor this thickness, which is in line with the high priced brands like Dynamat weight wise. Get some good metal rollers and roll it on. Don't forget surface prep. I used rubbing alcohol a the last step to ensure a clean surface to adhere to

My best friend also did this in his 76 square body sleeper he dropped an 800hp 612ci motor in, it's nice and quiet inside until he hits the button for the header dump cutoffs

Never had cabin drone in my C4. So, has your exhaust been changed. That center resonator is a bug deal on C4s.
But, they have sound deadening material you can buy, to put in doors, floors etc. Very time consuming.. May be worth it, or just turn the stereo up a bit. lol

I installed Uxcell 394mil thickness from Amazon. I have a true dual exhaust no cats and some walker mufflers that are pretty loud but look stock .
Its significantly quieter overall and makes a noticeable difference when talking on the phone or having a conversation .

I used the butyl in the doors, to get rid of rattles. It works. It was solid look vice a diamond plate design. Yes, it works, its just rubber sound deadening.
It is not rocket science. Buy it, take out all interiors carpeting and install it. Many have done it in many vehicles, incuding here I am sure. Check archives and other versions of the Vet.

I haven't done it to my C4 yet, but I have it on the list to do at some point. I did it on my C6 GS along with additional heat resistant stuff and it made a noticeable difference. I used Second Skin Dampler Pro and the VetteNuts Premium insulation. Search for it on the C6 forum, I did a write up there, along with pics; its been a few years, think it was 2019 when I did it. It is time consuming, but well worth it in my opinion, hence the reason I plan to do it on my C4 too....

Fully did my 88. I used a combo of the old (ripped jeans looking stuff) and foil backed butyl stuff. My car is loud and it does make a big difference in heat and noise. Only thing I didnt do another member here did is put a layer of it on the top side of the rear wheel liners. I will do this next time they are off.
Word of caution, the foil backed stuff is obviously electrically conductive. So keep that in mind.
