Corvette 1985.
At last, I managed to fix the AC. The compressor was replaced with a new one, replaced the drier and the orifice. Went on a Sunday morning drive. The outside temperature was about 75F. I turned on the AC and after about 7 minutes I got 40F measured in the vents. after approximately 15 minutes, the vent temperature went up to 45F. All driving was ~65mph without any traffic or uphill. Is there any cycle-off mechanism?
Thank you
Well, I am just taking a wild guess but when you first started the car was warm and the compressor was running and you got 40 degrees. After a while the car got down to temp and the compressor stopped. Maybe you checked it when you got 45 degrees just after it had restarted. Dan
I don't know much about AC compressors. What I'm asking is if there is a switch that stops the compressor when it reaches a low temperature or pressure ?
EDIT:
I found this info:
Why does my car’s ac compressor cycle on and off? When everything works correctly, vehicle air conditioners cycle every 15 to 20 minutes. This varies by car and compressor models, but this time decreases when the outside temperature is high, as the system must work harder to compensate.
I have a 96 with the manual HVAC control. It has a slide lever to set the interior temp. The fan runs at a set speed that I set. When I put it on AC I can control the temperature proving that while setting the control on AC does not mean the compressor will run nonstop. So the HVAC control does tell the compressor that we are cool enough in here and you can shut down. Dan
Sorry, little off topic. When changing out the orifice filter did you replace the seal that was inline? I bought the seal kit from AutoZone. It did not contain that particular seal.
