The unit i imstalled in 2023 was complete. Thats why im pissed it leaks.
I thought I had read you mention some place around here a while back about replacing the MC for the same reason of not wanting to mess with the grommet leak problem any more.
That sucks that it started leaking even after replacing the MC. I'd be pissed off about it, too.

Hope mine don't do that any time soon.
Leaking brake fluid sucks.
MC was new in 2008. Used original reservoirs and caps that i installed...Was fine (but car was still being built so wasn't driving it) and didnt leak. Started driving in 2020. Started to leak, thought was caps so swapped them. Same issue. So in 2023 bought new one complete. Same issue.
The later masters with a "normal" reservoir work on the earlier cars. Good way to be rid of that problem.
Speaking of that, I'm reminded of that other MC thread we were on a while back.
Those caps I said that I thought were too flimsy that came with the new Element 3? Turns out they're way better caps than the OEM ones. Way better design in terms of function...

Long as they keep fluid in and fresh moist air out and facilitate fluid level drop without creating a vacuum that's all they gotta do. That stuff was pretty well sorted by the 60's if not before.
I don't know if what was on my 86 was original or not, be interesting to see. Seems like some Australians made the brakes for the early cars for some reason.
Yup thats what i got...i have a friend coming over today, im gonna have her hit the brakes and im (finally) gonna see wth is going on here...
These are the caps that came on my new Raybestos...
Although a lot of the photos that you see of those MC for sale are pictured with the OEM caps that wolf_walker posted up.
At first I thought they were kind of sketchy. But now I'm convinced they're just a better design than the old OEM ones.
No mess. No leaking from splashing. None of that. There's a valve inside the cap versus that accordian type deal that the OEM ones have that suck themselves backward.

Ill have to see if maybe they sell them separately..they do look like a better design.

Not good caps that I can tell. The couple new ones I went through had them. Not enough sealing surface to the reservoir and no facility to keep moist air out but still allow fluid level to decrease.
