Hi all,
went to change my fuel filter tonight and had problems..... I have it up on ramps(front),got the nuts loose and started to remove the nuts and
gas started to come out which is normal, ,but wouldn't stop! Got soaked in gas retighten the nuts so its not leaking. my question:
will it stop or will it empty the tank?(which is almost full)
any easier way?
thanks
If the tank is almost full it can start a siphon. Either wait for the tank to be less full or clamp the feed line at the top of the tank. Easy to get at under the fuel door. Also as Yonker mentioned, start the car and pull the fuel pump fuse to depressurize it. Or you can just wait and hour or so. As I'm sure you know, gas is extremely dangerous, be careful.
This happened to me. I was not expecting it and just went for it and put the new filter on as it was siphoning (NOT a good idea). I ended up with some chemical burns.
After that I've made sure to clamp the feed line any time I am working on the lines somewhere. You can get a cheap line clamp set at Oreilly.
