I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but I can't seem to find the answer.
So, I ask, can I use a new 1996 optispark on my 1993 coupe?

As said, no, you can’t use it, BUT, I would highly recommend adding a vent system to your spline drive Opti. It’s not too difficult. Lots of how to’s here.
