The BAD luck returns :( ------ 406 engine update
Here is what happen. As you all saw my engine was in need of a serious paint job. I wanted to do the best job I could so I ordered some POR-15 engine enamel. It came in a kit that provided everything right down to the rubber gloves. I followed the instructions to a T and everything went great, exept one thing. Let me explain:
I got done putting the *primer* on the engine. It was a silver and man did the engine look cool! Kinda wanted to leave it that color but it would have gotten too dirty looking I figured. So I contiued to break out the red paint they provided. Thanks to all that participated in the picking of the color.
I started at the back of the engine on the flange that the bell housing mounts to. I got about 8 sq. Inches covered and stopped. I got back away from it and to me it did not look the bright red I had anticipated/wanted. Instead it looked a bit on the purple side. I was like WTF? I called my dad to see what he thought. He worked with paint quite a bit, he's a real good artist (hobby). He said that it might change color once its dried, and I would probably be alright. So I concurred with him and continued to paint away. The more that got on there the more uneasy I became. At this point I was too far along to quite so I finished it up with the hopes he was right. It was Sunday, so I couldn't call POR-15 to see what they had to say. When I was finished the finished block was really nice looking, finish wise, but the color was far from what I expected.
The Raider game was about to start so I figured I would call it quites and see what some curing time would reveal. I went out the next morning before work and there it sat. Freakin PLUM color :mad I just shook my head and went to work. That night after work dad stopped over at the house to see if for himself and see if it was just me or not. He agreed that it was not red, but plum color. So I decided to call POR-15 to see what the F was going on.
I spoke with the guy I ordered the product through and explained the situation. His reply was, "Your kidding right?"
He proceded to tell me they had a problem about 8 months ago with that color and everyone was to send the product back to the manufacturer for inspection. I must have got a can that wasn't sent back or caught :mad I told him that if there was one in a million cans out there. I would be the one that would get it. He appologized and told me he would ship a new can and it could just be added to the oringinal color. He offered to return my money as well, but I told him as long as he makes it right, I don't want my money back.
So the can should be here and it will be getting another coat. This time the correct color.
So here are the pictures...they don't look as bad here as it does in person
Just when I was about to remove Shleprock from my signature :D

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
not a lot will show anyway, with the alu. heads and all.
but I know how you feel, It isn't the color you wanted.
If that is the only problem you have you will be way ahead of the game.
Good Luck !

Ski, the pictures dont look bad, but red is hard to catch on film, thats why Penske Indycars are actually Flourescent Orange not Red. I wouldnt woryy, it will hardly show. Think of it as a good base for the new can coming. It looks really sweet! Keeping things clean on a daily driver is a bear though...
BTW, Dell is selling the Dimension Desktop 2350 for $499, my Dad was having trouble with his, and calling me all the time, so we jumped on it. RUNS GREAT, and now HE CAN CALL DELL INSTEAD OF ME DUDE!!!!
Dont run Windows Millenium on older hardware, it wont work, and dont ever upgrade to anything over Millenium. Do a fresh install of W2K Pro if you are a Pentium 3 450 w/128 mb or lower, use XP for everything else, but it likes 256mb.
Im lucky, I have 3 pcs and 2 laptops setup here, plus all the equipment at work and my clients so I am always online!
Keep the Shleprock....its kewl!
Good luck. :)
Gus you are right, I just figure its a good base coat. The shop vac in the background is the color I was hoping for.
