Masterchief, for what you would pay for a '90, my guess is that you would be hard pressed to match that performance for the money. (presuming the car's in good conditon.) Plus, you have the cache of a Corvette. Most people are clueless of the year of Corvettes, and again, if it's a clean car, many would guess that it's much newer than it really is. If it's a car YOU like, at a fair price, do it! You will have a ball with it.
not compared to whats available these days from the dealers:cheers:
im going to have to dissagree..... I have beat many a brand new "Sports cars" with my 12 year old 1991 Corvette.... Its not going to beat a C5, but It will DEF. hold its own out there! And they are very good Street cars, all the torque gets that thing going out of the hole! makes for a GREAT Red-light racer!........ Not that I ever participate in any of that or should anybody.... Just trying to get my point across :blueangel:

I agree with u there. Most 'sports' cars sold today are still only in the 14's.
unless he can afford a mustang cobra, viper or new Corvette, I can't think of a new car that can beat the low-end grunt of a good running L98.
I mean bone stock you are at just around 14.0 in the 1/4, with great light-to-light acceleration (if you get traction)..
I do think you shoudl test drive a few different vettes or cras you can afford.
Of course if you can afford a new Z06 I'd say to hell with an L98 and get the Z06. I would..
Hmmm maybe now that I am sporting a supercharger I wouldn't actually.. :steering:

Re: 1990 L98 (MasterChief)
2 things about my 90.
On a fast romp through the moutains I was able to stay right on the rear of the C5 in front of me.
At dinner after a cruise where I was the only C4 the waitress without being asked went out to look at all the cars. She came back in and announced that mine was the nicest out there.
I love my car. :D
If its clean, in good condition (I would recommend setting up an appointment with a GOOD speed shop and have them do a leakdown test on the motor) that will tell you the condition of the motor. Anything above 6% is questionable...above 10% forget it.
If you like the car and the price is right, then go for it. As said above, people are clueless about the cars years. Everyone thinks mine is a new vette when they talk to me :D
the L98 is your basic chevy 350. sky is the limit. our main restriction is the intake, it really chokes the motor but there are tons of mods you can do to fix this. but if you keep it the way it is you will not be disapointed.
Right now, L98's offer alot of bang for your buck. You can do a little research and determine what engineering/design changes were made by model year for the L98 and that might help you decide which year to go after. I'm biased toward the 90 though.
I bought a 1988 coupe 2 weeks ago. It has the L98 with the basic inexpensive mods. Let me put it this way...If you are not used to driving high performance vehicles(i.e. you've been driving around in fuel efficient 4 and 6 cylinders) you will be amazed at the acceleration. I was. I have not owned a performance vehicle since I puchaced a new 1988 mustang GT. It was fun back then, as I was only 20 years old. I did not keep it long because of insurance prices. So for the last 15 years I've been driving Honda, GMC pickup, Chevy Suburban, and my wife's Toyota Camry V6(which I thought had alot of get up and go). Guess what? I had lost my perspective on speed and handeling. That is what it boils down to, your perception. I know that there are much faster Corvettes and other cars out there that my L98 powered vette, but to me (at least for the time being) it feels darn fast and is exillerating to drive. If you like it and it's a good deal go for it. If you simply want more power then opt for a newer vette with the LT1, LT4, etc.
