Try to increase the volume of their air cleaner housing. I know many of the aftermarket air induction systems have housing that are more open. The stock one is pretty scronny when it makes the first bend. I was thinking about putting it in boiling water and trying to outward form it to open it up some. Otherwise I am gonna have to drop 2XX dollars on something I think is WAY WAY overpriced.
Let me know how it goes. I am getting plenty of air in through my plate and open lid, whether it gets stuck in the neck is beyond me??? I have been thinking about getting a BPP Vortex and instead of cutting the shroud and bottom feeding, running ducts from the front of the box up to my plate opening. Those boxes are all overpriced $$$$$
The MAF meter is easily large enough to support my 406 into the high 10s. However we have done calcs on the air filter housing itself and it does not lend itself to the air as well as some of the aftermarket housings. As a last ditch effort to save 200+ dollars I was hoping there might be a way to open it up some and let more air through.
Switching over to SD just complicates things even more. It is not as forgiving as the MAF system. But that is a whole different topic, one in which I have written on before.
I will most likely try the original housing and then swap it over to see if there is an improvement, before investing the money into something that may not help.
This mods was something I will probably try and if I ruin it, well then I have no choise but to upgrade. :D Sometimes a wrong does make a right
Right where the MAF attaches is a restriction. Look in there and you can port it. I removed alot of material. I run Speed density but still suck through a gutted MAF. I might switch it over to a pipe if I can get one that looks good. The last time I went the the dyno I did my last run with an open throttle body. I actually lost power and the mixture went rich. With an open TB I would expect it to lean out if anything.
My question was in relation to, how do you expect to mount the MAF after you have streteched the plastic.
I seem to recall the restriction that Jason spoke of. When I first laid eye's on it years ago, my first thought was how small it looked. I didn't have any options back then.
My guess it that plastic won't budge. Mine has cracked from the heat and fastener stress. i.e. I don't think that plastic is too forgiving.
