My 96 vert rear deck lid is adjusted all the way down in the front but still sits to high. I have no adjustment left in the front to pull it down the 1/2" it needs to line up with the rear. Anybody else have this problem or a solution.
Thanks,
Randy
Striker is in the lowest position. I even thought about taking them out and using a Dremmel or similar tool to make the holes longer so I could get more adjustment out of them. I must be missing something.... :banghead:
It appears the striker is fixed in place with no adjustment possible, except by bending the striker, which is not advised. The latch mechanism is secured with three screw which may allow adjustment, if the holes are slotted. Try removing the three screws, and see if you can adjust the latch mechanism. My GM manual suggests adjusting the striker (BS). My other manuals don't even mention the rear deck lid. Maybe we can get more help........
Oldman,
I mis-spoke, it's the latches that I have adjusted all the way down. The strikers don't appear to have any shims or adjustment at all. The rubber stops need to be adjusted pretty tight to stop the lid from rattleing but they also push the lid up.
Re: Vert rear deck adjustment......Help? (whitelite)
Whitelite, did you assemble the latches to the bracket? If so, are the holes slotted for adjustment of the latch mechanism? The only place for adjustment up or down would be with the latch mechanism ( or with a shorter arm on the striker ). If you haven't loosened the 3 screws securing the latch to the bracket, do so, and see if there is an adjustment.
Re: Vert rear deck adjustment......Help? (whitelite)
Whitelite, after looking at my hardware again, and studying the GM manual, I'm no smarter than when we started. The bracket, to which the latch assembly is bolted, does not appear to be adjustable. The latch assembly does not appear to be adjustable, and the striker is not shimmed. I would say that bending the 3/8" diam. striker is prohibitive. It is simple enough to disassemble that entire assembly (bracket to body panel, latch bracket, latch), and see if we have missed anything. Or you can just  , and live with a mis-fitting deck lid.
Oldman,
The latches are actually able to move on the brackets but just not enough. I have them all the way down and still lack 1/2 inch to make it fit right. The lid functions fine but sits higher in the front :smash: I guess I may have to live with it .
Thanks,
Randy
