Default Low coolant?

On my 86, the low coolant light has been lighting up on the dash, but when I checked the radiator level, the water/antifreeze mixture was almost at the to of the lip....so I know I have enough coolant. What's up with that? Could it be any thing else? Could it be that the thermostat is sticking becuase the light will go off and come back on every once in a while during drive time.

Check your overflow tank to be sure it is at the proper level. Also you could have an air bubble in the system.

Sensor in the bottom of the expansion tank may be going bad. You could try to clean it, but to get a new one you have to buy the whole tank (~$45). If you pull the tank, you'll see the sensor screwed into the low point in the tank.

On the '86 the sensor is not in the expansion tank. It could be air as stated by VetBoy89. Also look at TSB 88-43 on my site http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/rayq...tsbs/88-43.htm there's some info that may help.
