I'm installing a vented opti in place of the defective non-vented one on my 94. Since it was originally not vented, I didn't have anything to copy while installing the new one. Do the tubes run on the front of the water pump, or in the space behind it?
The Opti came with a block to replace the fitting that the brake booster uses in the intake. I'll be putting mine in it's place, and then installing the fitting for the booster line into the back of the new fitting. It's really just a glorified brass T fitting.
I installed a vented opti kit from Petris on my 93 Vert. I ran it like it was done on my 96.I’ll attach a picture. The vacuum lines run in between the water pump and the power steering pump. They run next to the water pump and not in front of it.
Cool. Thanks for the pic. And your time. It's too late now, but I can finish putting it together tomorrow after work. Then I can put my doors back together Saturday morning and start driving.
I sure hope the opti was the entire problem with my car, and there's nothing else lurking in there, waiting to strand me some more.
After installing the opti venting you can test if it is working. Start the car. Pull off the feed line (not connected to the vacuum) and place a 1/4" X 1/4' piece of paper on the end of the line. If it is working the paper will stay there even if turned upside down. Dan
Good afternoon,
I’m replacing opti on my 93. Can you test it after install but before installing the water pump?
Does water pump need to be installed for a quick start up test?
thank you!!
Can you test it after install but before installing the water pump?
Yes. As a matter of fact I'd HIGHLY recommend it. You shouldn't install the serpentine belt, either. You'll only be running the engine for less than a minute. You don't need to cool the engine to run it for such a short period of time. You also don't need the alternator, ac or power steering, so why have the belt running near your unsecured vent lines? If you did not remove the accessories (like me) you're going to find that installing the bolt farthest to the driver side can be a huge pain. I used a 1/4 inch drive socket because the extension and u-joint are enough smaller to make it possible. You only need the 3/8 to tighten it down, and it will fit at that point.
You really don't want to go through it more than once if you can help it. So, by so means, test it before you install the water pump.
