Default C4 Corvette LT4 Transmission

Hello All,

I have a 1996 corvette with the 6 speed manual and LT4 engine. I am going to be parting it out soon and want to be sure I list everything correctly.
My question is what the transmission code is? Is it the same as what comes in the LT1? I did a search and only seemed to find it ever referred to as a 6 speed manual, can't figure out anything more about it.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks! 🍻

You might want to 'snapshot' the SPID Label for the car and include that with everything that you present for sale.

ML9 - MN6 on the SPID for the 6 Speed

There are a few different versions of the ZF-6.

The ZR1 has a different length input shaft.
The early L98/LT1 cars have a different diameter input shaft guide tube (Can be swapped between transmissions) (needs different throwout bearing to match diameter)
The early cars have a different speed sensor (Can be swapped between transmissions)
The shifter on '95-'96 is a "crash through" design that is different from the '89-'94 lift ring for reverse. I am not sure if it is only the shifter or if there are differences in the transmission too.

I agree with FrankieD that the ZF doc website has a lot of good info about these transmissions.

1-15-24 update:
I also forgot to mention the '96 is a blue tag transmission. The earlier black tag transmissions have a more square cut gears and on paper has a higher torque rating. In practice I have not heard of a real world difference in strength. The black tag may be a little bit louder gear noise, but I have owned both and could not tell a difference.

Does thee 95'96 trans have reverse in a different location? I hve shift patterrn **** insert thatt shows reverse as right and forrward, instead of right and back where it actually is. (89)

ZF shift pattern never changed. Later is considered 'Crash-Thru' for reverse but no change in actual pattern.
