Does anyone make a decent stroker kit? I am looking for a pretty good performance package, but nothing that would turn this into a drag car, still a daily driver. Or would I be better off just piecing together my own?
All forged is nice, but not necessary in many cases. I don't think ANYBODY (including Chevrolet) makes a cast rod. Except for some late model PM (powdered metal) rods, ALL, are forged. For street and an occasional 1/4 mile blast, a cast crank and pistons will do nicely. A step up to hypereutectic pistons IS a good idea. Seriously consider 5.7" and maybe 6" rods. A "kit" may have some built in "quantity" pricing. Don't forget the damper and flexplate/flywheel you'll need. A balancing "option", may save money in the long run. You WILL want it to be balanced somewhere along the line. You don't have to go nuts (or broke) to build a good running daily driver. Have fun. Good luck, and...
same with the ebay sellers, you could make a really strong 383 kit real easy. scat makes a $200 383 crank, eagle has a bushed i beam 6" rod for $210, wiseco sells a piston & ring combo make for the before stated in summit for $400ish. take your pick of bearings and assemble correctly & you just made a short block that can live as long as your stock block does.
i bought my kit from allen motorsports in dallas texas....GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! his number is in qwestdex.com!!!!!
look him up and tell him what you want.....there were several good posts about this guy AND his shop!!!!
I have heard different things about Eagle; some of them are not very good...
I would like to hear your opinions. My mechanic doesn’t want to put in anything from Eagle in to my car, he says that I should go with Callies, Manley and brands like that. If I could put in Eagle that would be much cheaper.
I have built several storker motors and the best qaulity for the buck I get from Powerhouse. I have never had one come back. Their kits start at $469. and thats for al most everything but the block and heads. Check em out. http://www.enginekits.com
if he can't resize the stuff i agree. the problem with eagle is the quality control. the metal is strong and the forge is good but the clearances aren't. my $200 scat crank and my $200 eagle rods had to be worked and machined to get the main clearances i wanted. it's really not that hard to do, same with the balance, spin it, grind, spin it, grind. the really really high end stuff is definatly more exact but a good engine builder can clearance anything. someone who insists on the best for street/strip driving i would question.
Thanks for all the info guys, I will keep looking around. Eventually I might be running some N20. I hear good thing about Ross pistons but they seem a little pricey
