A good friend of mine and one of the best Corvette techs I have known did it during an Intake reseal on his own car, he carefully opened the area of mounting surface and also he did the same on the intake side also including inside the intake took a while. But it did make a difference how much only a Dynamometer could say.

Yes its a common change to port it out with a Dremel and port match the runners, or aftermarket runners.

do a subject search on youtube. plenty of videos. start with this guy - Darin Dochterman. can't back up or verify any of his work or findings - just passing on some info. not sure you'll gain much since the limiting factor is the long tube runners. i wouldn't do much more than some gasket matching and minor pocket porting. i'm thinking if you go too far, you could actually hurt performance - mostly in low end torque. giving up torque is the last thing you want to do. my 2-cent opinion, unless you NEED the racers edge, leave well enough alone. you may do more harm than good. plenum/runner mods alone may not even get a SOTP performance increase.
