Installed my rebuilt engine and it is sitting about an inch to inch and a half too high, can't close the hood. Pretty sure I compared the new motor mounts to the old ones and I believe the new ones were about 1/4" taller. Don't think a 1/4" would be responsible for this. Going to pull one of the mounts off to make sure of comparison of the old ones. Could the metal brackets on the motor be upside down? anyone else experience this? Any ideas?
After your rebuild do you still have the original intake on the car? Might be a stupid question but you didn't say what kind of a rebuild this was. Didn't know if you swapped out for something taller.
If it is still the factory intake then double check the motor mounts. Something has to be in there wrong. I had a hard time getting my new mounts in my 84 years ago but my hood would close.
Check that the studs on the bottom of the mounts aren’t hung up or misaligned with the holes. Sounds like maybe they didn’t align and you’re sitting on the studs instead of the mounts. This of course presumes that you haven’t verified that or secured with the nuts yet. Also, if you dont have trans and c beam in yet, the engine is going to be sagging in the rear and high in the front which can skew your perception of how it is sitting.
I’ll also mention that I found that tightening the bolts that go through bracket/mount after it is in car worked better for me to get things aligned. But I have poly/aluminum mounts that are not forgiving/compliant. Having things finger tight until everything was in place made it all go in a lot easier.

The studs seem to be all the way in and had the nuts on them. However the connection at the engine was not loose and as you mention that maybe the problem. I'm going to loosen those nuts and bolts to see if it makes any difference. Aware that without the trans installed the engine sits toward the rear however I had a jack on the oil pan to adjust it to about the correct position but the hood still wouldn't close. My first indication of this problem was the AC line that rests on the frame above the steering rack was an inch+ higher than it's resting position. I did save the original mounts, if the above is unsuccessful I'm going to pull one out and compare. At my car club meeting this week one of the members mentioned he thinks there are 2 different mounts and I probably got the taller one. I did source them through Amazon probably should have gone to Rockauto or the like. Once I get this issue corrected all I need to complete is the clutch, trans and exhaust and I'll be racking up some break in miles!
THANKS for all the replies and suggestions! To be continued!
