Default Mcleod clutch failed after 1 year

Mechanic isn't sure what happened. We didn't replace the flywheel and I think it burned me. New Carolina Clutch conversion kit to a single mass flywheel ordered with shim kit...

is that a McLeod street twin disc clutch?

looking at the photos , im trying to understand what failed.

was it slipping? Or did you break loose the hub from the clutch disk (as i did once on a spec stage 2 clutch)

i see very heavy pockmarks on the flywheel side

Hi, It was a Street Pro kit. Yes, it just started slipping and shifting was getting difficult - engagement point was right at the top, barely had to push the clutch into shift. I replaced the slave cylinder in desperation to not have to do this but there was no change. So here we are, twiddling our thumbs and waiting for the new parts.

Sounds like it was partially depressed and didnt get full clamp load.
When the disc wore, it started slipping.

Maybe its stack height wasnt the same as stock, your pivot ball stud was modified by a prior owner, clutch fork 'bent' somehow, or a really 'bad' korean copy of the Valeo pressure plate.

The Valeo pressure plate reproductions havent been good, with 'leg heights' varying across the plane. ZFDOC knows how to check and fix these.

I have used nothing but McLoed clutches since 1970. I switched to McLeod after a OEM clutch disc shattered and went through the floor board in my '68 Vette 383ci when I accidentally over revved it. Also threw one of those stupid flex fans through my L88 hood (car was not an L88). I recently bought a McLeod clutch for my '58 Chevy 3100 with 409ci ahead of a Muncie M22 with a steel shatterproof bell housing. I love a 4-speed. Currently getting an education on 4L60 automatics (my first automatic). I know didly squat about automatics.

Happy hunting.

New flywheel is in - super sexy, to bad no one will see it! From my mechanic: That fork ball hardware, one of them is threaded backwards. And yours looks a little wonky
