Steering wheel dead zone diag
1984 manual car. So I made a post a while back about possible causes for a dead zone in my steering. At this point I tracked it down and would just like some clarification on what I need to repair. As shown above that shaft from the steering wheel is turning and creaking really loud inside the part that goes to the rack. But catches then the wheels will turn. I'm already replacing the rack so would that solve this issue or do I need to buy whatever shaft that is and replace it?

That's the intermediate shaft coupling and yes that's an issue with '84 cars. There's a few options to correcting it. A steering rack will NOT fix or aid in correcting it.
