Hi guy wondering if I could get some help this being my first c4 1984 crossfire I had a problem with overheating so well I just removed the heads yup gasket time but in reading about my heads 462624 find out they are literally the worst one to have and suggested not to waste my time reinstalling them do to the fact there are prone to cracks I need help with finding a better set of heads that will work with my pulleys and intake .
Your help is appreciated thanks 🙏
I really like Brodix heads, I used the IK180's on my C4. They won't flow as well as the AFR but they are significantly cheaper, and still have decent flow numbers and are aluminum.
If its still got the 1984 Crossfire engine I would not do anything special. Unless your heads are cracked I would consider them good to go and forget about the rumors. Boy somebody sure has some time into custom body work !

What year is your C4? When I go to summit the only IK 180s they have don't fit 1987 and up models. Anyone know the part number for a 1988 block?
my 2-cent opinion. i'm part of a very small minority that will take a good set of iron heads over their aluminum counterparts any day. having said that AND if you need to replace your heads, i'd look at summit's Summit Racing SUM-152123 Summit Racing™ Cast Iron Cylinder Heads for Small Chevy | Summit Racing . unless you need the racer's edge, the 624's will do the job. the L83 is not a high rev engine and since you'll be doing most of your driving below 4000 RPM any head will meet the flow requirements of the engine up to 4K RPM - even those stock 624's. sticking high flow heads without significant intake and exhaust work won't do squat - nothing SOTP. if your stock heads are in good shape, clean them up and throw them back on.
did something similar on my 85. leaking head gasket and pulled the stock 624's. inspection showed no cracking, and seats were in good shape, 14 of 16 guides were in good but needed a couple valves. two guides were slightly out of spec by .0012 and .0015 inch, so opted to do an old school valve job. bought an elgin kit off fleabay - valves and springs. lapped in the new valves, threw in the new springs and slapped the L98 back together. 15K miles later, no issues. the two valve guides don't seem to be causing any problems and my oil consumption is acceptable (to me).

Mine is a 1991. I don't see why they shouldn't fit. The L98 at its core is just a Gen1 SBC. The only thing that's unique to it is the TPI system. Anything under the intake manifold is interchangeable with any other gen1 SBC stuff.
We can theorize about it all day, but ultimately they bolt right on my engine and run like a top. Your 88 will be no different. The one thing that I learned the hard way is the IK180s are not tapped with a coolant temp sender provision, so you will either need to drill one (or have a machine shop do it) or relocate the sender. I moved mine to the upper radiator hose. I don't get coolant temp on the dash until the thermostat opens, which kind of sucks, but it's what I get for not being thorough.

I agree with this. New heads will not improve anything on their own.
