I read in another post that you can get error codes from your temp. controls by turning the key to "on" but not start the car, press and hold the fan up and fan down buttons until the temp display shows 00 (about 5 sec.), and then press the auto fan button. After that, any numbers shown are error codes. I used this trick on my 90 to discover I had a low freon level with my A/C. If it works for you and you get an error code, come on back and post the results and I am sure someone here will be able to tell you what it means. I only know 09 is low freon so unless you get that code I cant help you any longer. I am not sure what kind of temp controls an 88 has but if its like the 90, good luck!

:seeya

Let me know if it works! :)

There is a resistor network, don't know the proper name, that mounts on the AC housing in the engine compartment. This network is what sets the speeds for your blower motor. With age and use these resistors, actually they are different lengths of coiled metal, burnout. It is really easy to change, there will be one electrical connection and two screws to remove to get the part out and the reverse to install. By the way don't touch the coils with your hands, if you do clean them with a lint free rag and alcohol.
