Default Power steering issue

Recently replaced the power steering pump and lines on my 88. Pump and lines are new from Zip. Installed everything, bled system of air, test drove and no power steering. I had power steering before replacing the pump but original pump was noisy and leaking fluid. Rack was replaced three years ago and has been fine since.

Removed pulley from pump and disconnected high pressure hose. Manually spun the pump CCW and no fluid came out of the pump. Manually spun the pump CW and fluid started running out of the pump. Is it possible I received a pump built as CW instead of CCW? I also checked to make sure the pump part number is what I ordered. I checked the Zip website and it’s the correct pump for an 88.

any help is greatly appreciated
Bill

From another forum thread:

Recently there was a posting where a new PS pump had a stuck flow control valve. If that valve (which is located inside the pump) sticks you will not have any power assist.

Remove the power steering hose assembly, now you will be able to unscrew the pump discharge fitting. Behind the fitting will be a slider valve and then a spring. You should be able to take a long probe and push on the valve. It should easily slide back and forth in the pump housing valve bore against the spring. If it sticks you have found the source of your problem.

I believe you take the 'conversation' to Zip and ask them what they'd like you to do. You disassemble and everything is 'on you'! You have a conversation with them and they should be able to confirm I'd think that the configuration of what they'll replace it with is correct. It looks to be a pump that they inventory and if the configuration can randomly be an issue they have a procedure.

I ain't doubting the 'speculation' or your thoughts but ........................................ .....
