I'm going to be saving up for a supercharger setup in the future. I know there are a few different kinds out there and I was wondering which one was the most recommended. So far the only manufacturers I know of are Carroll, ATI, and Vortech. The main factor in my decision is that the hood not be modified for the supercharger. Anything else is up for grabs though. :smash:
(yes, this is a duplicate in the Tech forum but was recommended to move it here)
None of the standard centrifugal supercharger kits require a hood modification on the C4's. You pretty much listed the most popular. Most people I know have the Vortech head unit, but a lot of folks are running the ProCharger (ATI) units. One of these days a D1SC kit will grace my ride.
What kind of safety measures can I take to ensure my engine will be able to handle it? It already has 110k miles on it and I'm assuming it'll be around 120-125 by the time I get one. I was told I should get roller rockers, forged piston heads, forged piston rods, and a forged camshaft (or was it crankshaft? bleh i'm engine illiterate...). Would these help with the life of my engine?
I also noticed in some of the other threads the topic of self-enclosed SC's or ones that use the engine oil. I've never heard about this before. Could someone enlighten me on this?
My SC (p600b) has to tap into the oil pan and use that oil for the SC. I didn't know that before I bought it. One of the many things I was unhappy about. So If you can, get a unit that you don't have to do that. I believe the D1 does not do this. To make a long story short, I blew my head gasket on my 383 under 1000 miles. I guess it's kinda my fault in that i should have never put on the SC with my compression ratio. I def. had 110% gawk factor when i went to a show, etc. :D I liked that, but I will now go back to just the 383.
