Hello all, I cannot get my 95 to keep running. This issue is strange, so read carefully:
The car will cold start and drive under operating temp just fine. No active codes, no stored codes.
At some point after the car has reached operating temperature, it will stall. Over the course of around one minute, the engine will begin misfiring more and more until it cannot run and stalls. Throttle input does not affect the misfiring.
Once stalled, the engine cannot be restarted until it has had sufficient time to cool.
Now, here is where it gets strange:
Now, after it stalls I can unplug any spark plug wire, forcing the computer to throw codes and enter (what I believe to be) limp mode. Fans on high.
Once a plug is disconnected, the engine cranks forever then starts perfectly! Every time it stalls I do this trick and I can make it home just fine.
So what is happening here???
Note: Fuel pump is good. Pressure is just fine, even when stalling.
When it does it hot but not cold, its pointing to a Closed Loop issue. In open loop when cold, the timers will be longer than when hot, based on what the PCM gets from the Coolant Temp sensor and TPS based on a table in the RAM memory. Once the timers expire the PCM is looking at everything, but then the other sensors in the line like MAF/MAP or O2s are being read, and if they don't line up with what others are saying, the PCM can't figure it out. It may not set the correct code to tell you.
That its dying though points more to fuel or spark. If the FP is always good then I'd look at the Opti. Might need to test noid lights on the injectors to make sure they all work well.
