Default Wiper Arm Spring Reattachment

When I bought my '87 C4 Vert I noticed that the wiper arm had some small set or machine screws holding the arms onto the wiper transmission splines. I needed to remove the wiper arms to detail the cowl area. I ended up damaging the ones that were on there but was able to pick up a couple of used ones at the local Pic N Pull. I noticed that there were no springs or clips on the wiper arms I got but they looked in good shape. So I figured I'd move the springs and clips from one to the other. Well it took awhile to figure something out since these springs seem to be under more tension than I can pull to release them. So I cobbled up a key ring, a carabiner, chain, web rope and a funky come along to release tension, remove the spring and clip and transfer it to the replacement wiper arms. I just used what I had laying around to set this up but I'm sure you guys can figure out something similar. I used my grinder as an anchor point since it was in the linear direction I needed to pull the spring and hook it into the hole. I attached a couple of pics of my cobbled up set up. During one attempt to install the spring, the wiper arm slipped in the vise and the spring and clip flew off. It took me awhile but I found the clip under one of my cars parked in the garage. So to prevent this from happening again, I vinyl taped the spring and clip to the wiper arm. The wiper arm is clamped into the vise at an angle with the wiper blade end lower than the spring end. This helped keep the spring in linear alignment with the hole the spring needed to engage into. It didn't take much effort on the come along to pull the spring into position to engage the hole. In between ratchet clicks of the come along was enough to get the spring to engage the hole and when I let off the come along the spring tang was under tension and in the hole. I did have to push down on the spring to get the spring tang to engage the hole but there was plenty of play in the setup to do that. I was able to rotate the key ring to get it off the spring since it was pinched between the spring and wiper arm. No big deal, just be careful not to disengage the spring in the hole.
