To my knowledge the TH400 has no Converter Lock Up so wouldn't that lead to excessive wear and heat given the top speed this car is able to archive?
Did they add a converter lockup to the TH 400?

I have no clue what intake manifold choices were available to them in '89 as the TPI was still relevant for a few more years, ergo I cannot imagine a super high stall unit...especially something necessitating a TH400. This I would imagine would be some wild setup with big torque. The 4L80E did not come out until 1991, so it would make sense to use a TH400 + GV in the early cars with large power as the 700R4 was still a wimp in the early days with very little HD aftermarket support.
