Default IAC calibration

Is it necessary to calibrate the IAC after being replaced or will it find it's setting by just driving the car?

Yes there is a procedure but it is very easy. Here is my experience from last month. Post #5 shows the steps to take. BTW this is for a CFI '84.

Since then I have had the symptoms reappear, so I'm going to replace the fuel filter and check for vacuum leaks. I have already discovered that the Thermac door on the drivers side intake do not close with a cold start. That means either a vacuum issue or the vacuum diaphragm motor is bad. I'll update my orginal thread as I make (or not make) progress.

At the end of every ignition cycle, the IAC will be reset by moving fully open, fully closed and then opening again to the startup position. It looks like this:
