I just installed a superram on my 89 convt. vette.
It has lost a lot of power with the Superram intake. I was running the accell base with a stock intake before and it felt strong. I am running true dual exhaust with no cats, flowmaster mufflers, K&N filter, custom chip, based on the ARAP bin, 3.73 gears, stock TB,22# injectors, stock cam. I took it to the track before the install to get a baseline and the best time was a 8.9 1/8 mile with a ton of wheel spin at the lights. I had to ease into the gas to controll the spin.
Now I would be hard pressed to run a 10 flat.
Any thoughts on the problem with the Superram? Is the Superram too large for a stock cam setup.
SR should really be run with a better cam. I would capture some data with a scanner before calling it a loss, you will not get results with the same chip, thats for sure, the SR has completely different characteristics. Also, go back to the track, SOTP is a horrible measurement, dynos are the best. Get Jesse (ski_dwn_it) to burn you a good SR chip.
If you dont have a scanner, read the plugs. It may be lean. Also check for air leaks with ether. You need to get into the heads\cam dude! I also noticed you dont have headers????? Youre pushing a lot more air in, but not through the heads and out the exhaust. I was tempted to do what you did, but I let my SR sit on the bench for 6 months until I had the money and parts to do it right. Im real happy, many others here are also. Sorry to hear youre not.
Jeez......
mine rips butt!
Something is not right w/ the install. After checking everything mechanically, how about some data-logging?
Have faith, you CAN make it work and it will rip!
chucks88 popped one atop of His stock L98 recently. I met up with Him at our N/E gathering last night and He had positive things to say about the seat of the pants improvement. He also had a custom chip burned to take advantage of the improved air-flow.
It could be your chip. Stock one's work for some, and they don't work for others...it's hit or miss. Either way, keep us updated. I'm sure more will chime in with assistance or feedback.
The 89 MAF should adapt well to that one change with the stock chip. IMO, gotta be something install related. The distributor is a major PITA with a SR, make double sure all's well there. Also, there are many opportunities for air/vacuum leaks on a SR install. Check for them again.
Uh, oh.....why is the distributor a PITA? I'm going to join the ranks of the SuperRammers soon and would like to know what I'm in for wrt the distributor.
Thanks. :seeya

hmmm....I saw that comment also and I disagree. It's actually very easy. The hold down is very easy to access. Dist goes in and out very easily. No need for a small dist. You'll be fine with the stock one.
My first SR was on a bone stock 86. No headers, no aftermarket chip. The car went a 8.64 in the 1/8. It hauled after the SR setup was put in. Make sure your timing is correct as that can really miss some things up.
