1994 - How Does The Accelerometer Work?
The first time happened after I took a highway cloverleaf at a "very spirited" speed. After that, the rest of the 20-minute ride home I found the car to stutter a bit when easing on the gas pedal to accelerate. If I pushed it to the floor (or near the floor) It would stutter for a sec, then accelerate normally. But if I eased my foot into it, it would hang up around 1500 RPM.
I had the car out multiple times since then and it's been perfect. No issues at all.
Then yesterday, I had to get hard on the brakes when a van made a left turn in front of me at an intersection. Then, coincidentally, the issue came back. It sounds like it's being starved for fuel. I just think it's strange that the issue has only appeared when the car has been pushed a little.
So I'm wondering if it's something to do with the accelerometer. If it works by cutting some power to the engine, either with fuel, it timing maybe, I wonder if the unit is "sticky" and giving false inputs after moderate G-loading.
I made a video of the issue, but between the typical mid-90s GM squeaks and wind noise, it's kind of hard to tell, but you can see and hear it hang up at 1500-1600RPM. I was on a back road at the time, in traffic, so I'm on and off the gas:
