Default Tachometer stops working after 3000rpm

Got a 1991 corvette 6 speed. Just completed my cam swap and I have a new hyper tech distributor cap with a high voltage coil. First day driving the car and I set the timing to 7-8 degrees. Took it down the road and after 3000-3500 rpm the tachometer fluctuates and then drops off to zero. The moment you get below 3000 it works again. Any thoughts on what it could be? I may not have connected the 3 plugs on the distributor right. I’ve heard of a tach filter but before I did my cam swap my cluster worked fine. I saw on another thread somebody bypassed the filter because they had a MSD coil that was high voltage. Should I do that?

If you do a search, 1990-96 have tachometer problems especially 1990-92. They usually read high idle rpm and will peg to 6k and above at wot. Besides this thread there are many more on the subject. Your problem seems different then any i have come across. Alot of owners send their gauge cluster to Batee for repair concerning incorrect readings. It very well could be from what recent stuff you did but I can't help there. Good luck
