Default running rough

Greetings all,

Need some input please...1984 corvette. When I have driven it harder as far as acceleration when it comes back to idle it is running rough. Then it subsides after a bit and runs fine. Well, after taking some friends for a few rides it really was running rough and the check engine light came on. I have a friend who is mechanical and has a garage he does work at his house changed out the spark plugs and wires. no change. we still need to change the distributor but that is unlikly the problem. It's running on seven cylinders at best and the smell of raw fuel is bad. Not sure what is going on and hoping it isn't anything major. it has flowmaster exhausts on it so maybe there is an o2 sensor issue. I'm not very mechanical so may not be making much sense. all 8 spark plugs were very fouled so it had been running very rich as well. Any input would be helpful. Also, If someone knows how to get the code off the car without a tool that would be helpful. I don't have the old one to plug in.

how to pull codes can be found here https://www.neilkline.com/Tech%20Tips/obdcodes.htm

did you check the gap on the new plugs before installing them?

you say running on 7, that would imply 7 good, 1 bad so, distributor cap arcing, bad plug wire or plug, loss of compression due to head gasket or valve issues on that cylinder (not likely)

Raw gas would be expected if one cylinder not firing, it is pumping that unburnt gas out the exhaust pipe

O2 sensor allows computer to adjust fuel mixture but it would affect all 8 cylinders and not just one

really need those codes to start the process
