Default Need a detent cable for '87 automatic

I'm in the process of replacing my shifter cable on my '87 Vert. While I was at it I figured I'd replace the fuel filter and find a trans leak(s). I noticed the filler tube grommet, and the transducer were leaking fluid so I bought a grommet and O ring. I removed the x brace and dropped the exhaust to clean everything good and pressure wash the x brace. While re-inserting the filler tube I could see the detent cable jacket was missing in a section and the steel strands surrounding the internal wire cable were broken. So now I'm trying to find a new detent cable. I'm seeing the ATP Y363, EC Products cable, OEM 10079744, OEM25521263. I'd like to not have to hassle with the universal type cables and stick with an OEM style where I connect it and adjust it per the manual. Might also consider a good used OEM one. Anybody have luck with the aftermarket cables? I also read it's not a detent cable but a kickdown cable or tv cable. I see them on Ebay as detent cable...go figure.

As with anything in life, things tend to go askew when someone with limited knowledge on a subject says something and like people continue to repeat it. I could be wrong but I don't think you will find any GM service manual that will refer to it as anything other than a TV cable. It is NOT a "kickdown" cable either. For instance, on any transmission that DOES have a "kickdown cable"(or rod), you can disconnect it and beat on the trans like catching a pedo at a playground and nothing will be destroyed. Try that with a 4L60 and let me know how you make out. As far as using an OEM or jobber part, nowadays it is hard to guarantee that the OEM part didn't come from the same place as the "interchange" ones. They are not expensive and with such an important part, I would stick with OEM for whatever that is worth.

The 10079744 doesn't look like it's correct for the application.

I guess I was just too lazy to do in depth research and was hoping for an answer from the Forum. I don't think these things go bad very often so maybe not too much info on replacement. Anyway, I downloaded an 1987 Corvette GM parts manual that revealed the part number is 25521263 for 85-88. I see them on Ebay as the Y-363 which seems more universal, Ebay's 25521263 as damaged, Corvette Central's 534241 part number looks universal. I looked up the same part in my 82-91 Camaro parts and illustration manual for an L98 T/V cable and it's the same part number 25521263 for an 87-88. So I guess that's what I'm going to be looking for if I want OEM. My old one measured about 45" from the plenum bracket flange mounting surface to the TV transmission mounting surface. I've been seeing some that are 61" but not sure what they're measuring, maybe the stranded cable ends.

I bought a Y-363 from Summit. The length of the cable externally is about spot on. It's just the stranded wire cable that's longer and adjustable. I'll give it a try, might be able to bench measure my old stranded cable and adjust the new one to the same length to start.
