I've got what I consider to be a descent question..my vette has 275's up front, 295's in the rear...so, when i go for shopping for tires, they only show 275's are the tires for the fronts and rears. Could this be why mt LTPWS lights fires up after about approx 3 miles of travel? Did the previous owner just hodge-podge a wrap of tires? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :steering:
Oversize rear tires should not be a problem. Did the shop damage the sensors? could be. Have they gotten old with a lot of mileage? could be. Assume you're referring to the 'service LTPWS' light. This is a sensitive system with lots of false codes. One of the sensors isn't reporting in. If it happens occasionally (like mine), don't worry about it. If it is happens all the time, you need to replace one of them.
Assuming you have stock '89 wheels (9.5x17), the best fit tire size is 275/40x17 as previously stated. A 285 is OK, but they are actually better suited for a 10" wide rim. I don't know the source of the 295, but if you have them, they're too wide for the stock rim. I run 275s on 9.5 rims all the way around on both cars for the street = balanced handling. On the track, I balance with 315s on all 4 corners.
Thanx for your help guys..I thought the numbers sounded kinda weird...luckily it is time to shop for new tires...still pondering the best type for my use...just cruising hiway, city..no real tire scrub or warp speed. Just enjoying the moving pavement underneath my butt :auto:
