Anyone have any ideas on why my vette wont hold idle. When i am in car and applying a little pedal it idles fine. When I let up on peddle all the way it stalls. I only have to apply a little pressure to the gas pedal to maintain and idle.
When did it start having this problem? Any recent work done? Has the plug been removed from the min. air screw on the side of the tb? Is the throttle position sensor set to .54V(if it is adjustable-I don't know if '90's are or not).
The screw is factory set and still should be unless you have messed around with it. However, the TPS may have gone out of range. That's why the suggestion to check the voltage to be sure it is within spec. If all is good, then then I'd be looking hard at the IAC.
In the tech tips, there is a procedure for resetting the idle. Follow the steps. If you dont know what the TPS or IAC are, then you should buy a repair manual, or have someone help you out.
It sounds like this car has not given you any trouble before, or you would surely know what these things are!
TPS= throttle positioning sensor (on the pass side of the tb)
IAC= idle air control (located just below the TPS on the tb.)..this is controled by the computer (ECM) ....the ECM sets the idle speed (IAC) by reading the TPS, IAT( air intake sensor) and CTS (coolant temp sensor)..You have just had traning in sensor 101 class. :D :jester
By all means, get the Helms manuals for the car.
ok I looked at IAC and TPS and visually look ok. Did notice the TPS had a strap tie around it holding connector in place. Not sure I understand the testing procedure from the chilton book. Anyone have simple instructions?
I think I am going to take advise and clean TB. make a difference?
If it hasnt been cleaned in a long time... It should make a very nice difference..... Not in power gain obviously, It got rid of the tiny hesitation i had and idles better now... (Well now it idles like crap but thats most liley because my IAC is bad, gotta check it out.. just to cold right now doesnt bother me enough
