How do you actually regap a plug? I got some NGK TR55's for a nearly stock 1990 L98. I have the round gap tool with the 6 metal measuring loops around the edge and 2 solid metal pieces at oppisite ends. Also, what is a good gap setting for my kind of engine? Thanx!!!!!
I've found nearly all NGK's come gapped perfectly from the factory. If the they happen to be wrong then stick it at .050 (for LT engines, your's may be a little tighter) and you'll be good.
For an L98 with stock ignition .035" is a good gap.
Use the appropriate metal loop to slide between the center electrode and the outer ground electrode to determine the gap. Bend the outer electrode with the slotted end of the tool as required to achieve the proper gap.
To re-gap, if required, I use a small pair of needle nose pliers to make the bend. A special regapping tool is available, but the small pliers work better for me. Also, I have found that not all the cheap gap gauges are accurate, get one that is right, however I don't believe they are off enough to make any real difference. Sid.

:iagree: If you are asking on "how" to regap, do as stated above. You should have to apply a little pressure on the tool to slide it between the center electrode and outer one....and about the same pressure to pull it out. Not a lot of pressure here, (no forcing) just a "tight drag". Hope this makes sense.
