Default NGK plug question

I went to the local Auto Zone and ask for NGK plugs to fit a 93 vette. He said he had no listing. I then ask for TR55 and he said it was not a good number. Is this the actual part number, or did I get a counter man who dosnt know what he is doing?

The actual part number is TR55VX and the counter guy didn't know what he was talking about. :nono:

Just for info, you can go to the NGK website (http://www.ngk.sparkplugs.com) and do your own search if you like.

Hope this helps!

The NGK website shows the plug as TR55VX and it also indicates a "part number" of 2885. That may be some help to them too.

The local AutoZone here has a guy who apparently just got promoted out from floor sweeping at McDonalds to running the A-Z parts counter computer. I never ask for a part by car description anymore, I always get a mfg. part number whenever I can.

Well thanks for the info, and the web page. However the plug TR55VX (2885) is shown as a platnum plug. I thought there was one that everyone was getting for the LT1 that was a non-platnum.

Where did you find that part number?? When you use the NGK plug finder for any Corvette LT1 motor, they all show their stock number "2885" and "TR55VX". I did find reference to 3 different types of platinum plugs on the website. G-Power, Laser Platinum and the VX Platinum. Could the 3951 number refer to one of the others?

c4cruiser, that is the part number printed on all the boxes of TR55s I've had. My guess is the NGK website doesn't list this plug because it's copper, while the factory used only platinum plugs in the LT1. Thus they didn't want to officially recommend a non-platinum replacement for whatever reasons.

The TR55 is the regular copper version of the TR55VX. Same heat range/gap as stock LT1.

Thanks! I checked at the local AutoZone (again) and they show that number on the copper TR55.
