Default Fuel fitting questions

I'm going to run new braided stainless fuel lines from the fuel filter to the fuel rail on my 89. My current hard lines run too close to my headers for comfort. I'm going to weld a -6 AN fitting in the end of the rail on the back left side and connect that line to the filter. Then a return line from the regulator (weld in a -6AN fitting) to the existing fitting on the return line just under the filter.

What type of fitting screws into the filter? Is it a Saginaw 3/8" with an o ring or an inverted flare fitting?

Thanks Jeff. They are 3/8" Saginaw fittings. Accel and Ear's both make adapters. I have the fuel rail I bought off of you that I'm going to set up for new lines. The stock return line is 5/16" from the regulator to the front of the motor where it connects to a 3/8" line all the way back. I'm planning on running -6 AN feed to the back of the left rail and a -4 AN return line or maybe a -6. I assume that the -6 is 3/8". I'll research that.

The AN sizes -3 -4 -5 -6 .... stands for 16ths -6 = 6/16ths or 3/8ths and so on.

I posted some pic's & procedures on the -6 stuff but the pictures were too large for the auto resize, I'll crunch em' down & post later, you can view the text over in the testing forum under my user name.
Gotta' go running late....

Here we go...

Keep in mind these pics are from a 95' with an LT series motor...

I made both of these -6 hard line "O-ring fitting" adaptors from the (1) return line fitting that is next to the fuel filter, by splitting it & welding the -6 adaptors onto it...to make (2) new adaptors.

Here's another pic showing the fittings with the fuel rail in the background, I purchased the -6 fuel rail weld fittings from Pegasus and heli-arched them onto the factory rails, the technically correct way would be to braze them onto the fuel rail.

The new lines at the fuel rail...

The new Canton fuel filter plumbed & in place...

I moved the lines because I felt like they were to close to the headers & hot fuel just don't cut it IMHO.

About a week ago a similar question was on this forum. When I put my headers on I re-routed the fuel lines as well. I Used the following fittings and did not do any welding.
-6 AN x 14mm x 1.5 O-Ring Adapter
-6 AN x 16mm x 1.5 O-Ring Adapter
The larger fitting went down by the fuel filter I believe, and the two smaller fitting went on the fuel lines at the manifold. This is on a 85 so I don't know if the sizes are different for an 89.
I do not have the brand name for them but we found them in a Russel or Aeroquip or Earls catalog. There are other fitting manufatures as well. We found them under GM power steering fittings.

Hope this helps.

Brian

Street and Performance also sells the fittings, check their catalog or I think you can order them from on-line. Lots of street rods have the L-98 and these fittings are what they use to plumb the fuel rail.
